Why you should avoid the Nokia Lumia 800

the lumia 800

Nokia recently launched the Nokia Lumia 800 in the Indian markets, a highly awaited phone and a very neat attempt by Nokia to tackle other smartphone manufacturers which have stormed into the market (thanks to android) such as Samsung, htc,LG. We recently got a hands on with the device and were mighty impressed with it, the 3.7 inch clear black AMOLED display is a plus point of the device, the colour reproduction is pretty nice and comes close to the Samsung Galaxy S II's Super AMOLED plus display. The Nokia Lumia 800 has an 8 MP camera and we must say that the camera is better than the 8MP camera on the Samsung Galaxy S II. There are no lags in the UI even when we had opened applications simultaneously such as the internet explorer, angry birds and asphalt. Windows Phone 7.5 is clearly more smoother than Android and is comparable to iOS. Note that the Lumia 800 runs on a 1.4 Ghz single core processor while the Samsung Galaxy S II runs on a 1.2 Ghz dual core processor. On the design front the Nokia Lumia 800 is arguably the best designed phone taking inspiration from its long gone brother the Nokia N9,  But there are some negative aspects of the device , we list them below

Samsung Galaxy S and Galaxy Tab, denied ice cream sandwich update!

denied some ICS

Samsung has stated that it has no plans to upgrade the Samsung Galaxy S and the original Samsung Galaxy Tab to Android 4.0 , ice cream sandwich because of touchwiz. Samsung  has said that it requires more RAM/ROM and has compared it with the Samsung Nexus S which also features the same set of hardware and is receiving the ICS update as of now. Samsung has said that both these devices won't be able to run the 'experience enhancing' software.

Samsung has also said that the Nexus S runs the 'basic' android system while the Galaxy S has to cope up with touchWiz, video calling software, carrier services and in some markets mobile TV. Denying the Galaxy S with the ICS update is clearly not a good step taken by Samsung, the device sold around 10 million units.

Samsung Nexus S now available via vodafone at INR 19,999

when will I taste some ICS?

Thought that the Nexus S's stock is over? No, Vodafone India is providing the long forgotten phone which went out of stock, then also selling at a price point of 19,999 Rs.A great buy at that time. But now their are new entrants in the 20K range and we would recommend you to go for the Samsung Galaxy R or the LG Optimus 2X (both come with dual core processors). While the Nexus S only has a 1Ghz single core processor.

Only buy the Nexus S if you want to get the ICS update as soon as possible and earlier than others. The Nexus S comes with 16GB of internal memory and a 4-inch Super Clear  Curved LCD display, NFC( Near Field Communication) chip and is powered by 1 GHz processor. NOTE: the international version of nexus S features a super amoled display instead of the super LCD

Angry Birds now available for the Blackberry Playbook

Angry Birds is finally available for the Blackberry Playbook, it was originally set to launch in the summer but somehow got delayed. RIM has considered launching Angry Birds for Playbook OS probably because people have 'stereotyped' App stores on the basis whether it has popular apps or not (angry birds is in the list) and yes the number of apps too.

The Playbook OS (QNX) lacks both these characteristics and it may also be said as the reason why the Playbook didn't do well in the market, and also because of tough competition from the ipad and the android tablets, both having pretty huge App catalog. All the three versions of angry birds are available namely Angry Birds, Angry Birds Rio and the Angry Birds Seasons, at a price of US$4.99 each

Any ways have fun playing angry birds on your playbook! don't have a playbook? You can play on your web browser too! here (courtesy google)
