Why you should avoid the Nokia Lumia 800

the lumia 800

Nokia recently launched the Nokia Lumia 800 in the Indian markets, a highly awaited phone and a very neat attempt by Nokia to tackle other smartphone manufacturers which have stormed into the market (thanks to android) such as Samsung, htc,LG. We recently got a hands on with the device and were mighty impressed with it, the 3.7 inch clear black AMOLED display is a plus point of the device, the colour reproduction is pretty nice and comes close to the Samsung Galaxy S II's Super AMOLED plus display. The Nokia Lumia 800 has an 8 MP camera and we must say that the camera is better than the 8MP camera on the Samsung Galaxy S II. There are no lags in the UI even when we had opened applications simultaneously such as the internet explorer, angry birds and asphalt. Windows Phone 7.5 is clearly more smoother than Android and is comparable to iOS. Note that the Lumia 800 runs on a 1.4 Ghz single core processor while the Samsung Galaxy S II runs on a 1.2 Ghz dual core processor. On the design front the Nokia Lumia 800 is arguably the best designed phone taking inspiration from its long gone brother the Nokia N9,  But there are some negative aspects of the device , we list them below

People these days have a notion that Windows Phone 7 is not a 'developed' OS or its not a 'good' OS and maybe that 'android/iOS is way better'. After using the Lumia 800 I disagree with this point, Windows Phone is a new OS but it has garnered rave reviews and has the capability of attaining a good market share, though beating Android or iOS is still a long way to go.

The Lumia 800 features a micro-SIM slot

Why you should avoid the Nokia Lumia 800

1) No front facing camera : The Nokia Lumia 800 does not come packed with a front facing camera (just like its little brother the Lumia 710) despite the rather upwards pricing of the device at 30K rupees. At a time when you get front facing cameras at a price as low as 5K rupees,we expected a lot more from nokia at the hardware front.

2) File sharing made more cumbersome: Nokia Lumia 800 does not have bluetooth file sharing capabilities, which means say goodbye to song sharing as you know it.(bluetooth piracy ;)).Every time you want to transfer multimedia content such as music, photos, video etc you'll have to do it through zune(a proprietary desktop manager for WP7), which means plugging in your device on your computer through USB.

3) Steep price: The galaxy S2 comes with a 1.2 Ghz dual core processor , 1 GB of RAM and a mammoth 4.27" super AMOLED display, while the Nokia Lumia 800 comes with just a single core 1.4 Ghz processor 512 MB RAM and a rather small 3.7 " display( when compared to GS II's display).Clearly you expect a lot more at that price. (we took the GSII in comparison just to compare the hardware standards at that price) Our take on this issue is that the pricing should be at a range around 24-25 K,

4) No micro SD card support: The Nokia Lumia does not have a micro sd card support or simply said no Windows Phone 'phone' has micro SD card support (except the Samsung Focus), to us the 16 GB internal storage is enough but it actually depends on user to user.

There  is talk of a new phone in the offing tentatively to be called Nokia Lumia 900 which will have a front facing camera on board. It's official, The Nokia Lumia 900 does exist and comes with more features than the Lumia 800, such as a front facing camera. But their are doubt that whether the Lumia 900 will even reach the Indian shores or not. It is releasing in the USA around March 2012 .You might want to wait for it !
